It is currently WINTER in WESTEROS during the year 303 AC. The new moon cycle marks a full twenty years since the Mad King was murdered, and his son King Rhaegar ascended the Iron Throne in his place. Though the year is fresh, war in the Narrow Sea has left the Free Cities of Volantis and Tyrosh in ashes, and the Long Night continues to beckon from the Northern fringes of the Seven Kingdoms. With the Queen Lyanna presumed dead, the citizens of the realms look only to each other for survival.

THE WESTEROSI WAY

DEATH ROCKS THE ROCK
Tywin Lannister found dead
On the first day of the eleventh moon, the Warden of the West was found dead in his solar, foam at the lips and red in the eyes. Some cry out it was poison, and some wonder if it was simply an old man's stroke. The servants and guards in service to the late Lord Tywin have been contained for interrogation, and his son the Lord Jaime leads the investigations. The night preceding the Warden's death is recalled by very few, for the thirdborn son Lord Tyrion held a feast in honor of the very man, and allowed every member of the household to the Rock's wine stores. Knights bearing the King's banner have gone to Casterly Rock to assist in the coming proceedings, while the rest of the Seven Kingdoms wait eagerly for the Grand Maester's ruling on the cause of death. Some whisper suspicions of Lord Tyrion's involvement, and others are convinced it was simply Lord Tywin's age that got to him. While House Lannister has demanded privacy for their time of grief, joint ceremonies will be held in Casterly Rock and in the Red Keep in honor of the late Warden of the West.

Joined in death with his late wife Lady Joanna, Lord Tywin is survived by their children Jaime, Cersei and Tyrion Lannister, as well as his second wife Lady Ashara and their children Tycen and Alea Lannister. Succeeded by his grandchildren Tybolt and Myrcella Lannister, as well as Steffon, Argella and Joffrey Baratheon, the Lord Paramount of the Westerlands, Lord of Casterly Rock, Warden of the West and Shield of Lannisport leaves not only a legend in his wake, but his endless service to the Iron Throne and the Seven Kingdoms will be remembered as one of the greatest forces history has ever known.

THE WESTEROSI WAY

KING'S SON NEARLY DEAD
Prince Valarr almost killed at his own tourney
On the eighth day of the tournament at Summerhall, Prince Valarr was shot down with an arrow during an archery competition. High winds and untrained contenders are likely to blame for the incident, but a squire of Ser Willem Morrigen has been taken into the King's custody for interrogation. Reports have been that the arrow was headed straight for Lady Alea Lannister, daughter of recently deceased Lord Tywin Lannister, and rumors swirl that she was the target of a similar assassination. In the midst of her father's still-unsolved death, members of House Morrigen, as well, have been seized for questioning, and Prince Valarr is being heralded as his betrothed's savior after having jumped into the arrow's path. After two days spent unconscious, the Prince of Summerhall is awake and recovering slowly.

In the wake of this jarring incident, there have been reports of a dragon egg hatching, as well, making Valarr yet another son of King Rhaegar Targaryen who has borne a dragon. The Citadel hurries to make records of the event, and the King's men scramble to connect any lines between Lord Tywin's death and Prince Valarr's close encounter in saving the deceased warden's daughter. At the royal family's behest, the tournament has not been stalled, and will continue through the end of this moon. Though the airs get colder, Summerhall stays warm.

PRINCESS OF THE TOWER
Prince Matarys betrothed to Manwoody girl
With the close of the grand tournament at Summerhall, a new royal announcement was released concerning a final betrothal between Prince Matarys, the King's second-eldest son, and Lady Ysera of House Manwoody. It came as both a shock and a relief to much of the Seven Kingdoms, for the realms have watched on as younger princes and princesses were matched before the dark-haired Prince of the Tower, and watched as dozens of young women were presented to he and the King only to be turned away. Though reminded of the Dornish union to the once Prince Rhaegar and Princess Elia, the betrothal has yet to be met with much resistance, and the royal family hopes to press forwards with the marriage before the final turn of the season. Many are still waiting for news of an official celebration, or if the new pair will be married in a quiet ceremony in either Dorne or King's Landing... and many more speculate the possible insult to House Manwoody if a public tribute is not paid.

Word has spread that Lady Ysera and her retainer will arrive at the Tower of Joy within the fortnight, and an entire household befit a princess has been sent from the Red Keep to serve her. Though the Seven Kingdoms wonder what will become of the Prince, his dragon and his new betrothed, only time and the gods themselves will come to reveal the wisdom in the King's recent choices.

THE WESTEROSI WAY

HER GRACE THE SEAHORSE
Princess Rhaenna marries Commander of Seawatch
In the whirlwind of royal marriages, the second daughter and fourth child of King Rhaegar and Queen Lyanna has taken her own place in the Great Sept of Baelor. Betrothed to the second son of Lord Daeron Velaryon earlier in the year, Princess Rhaenna and her new husband Ser Lucerys welcome all of the Seven Kingdoms to bring in the new cycle of moons with them. With their union has come the King's promise and gift of High Tide, the great island castle once sat by House Velaryon themselves. Though the centuries have not been kind to it, there is word that the Ser Lucerys will be made into Lord of High Tide upon its completion, with the Princess its new lady.

One must wonder, how will her direwolf take to the new climate of Driftmark? The second daughter of King Rhaegar Targaryen is the only one of the royal family whose dragon egg never hatched, and with the Princess's recent stay in the North, new rumors swirl concerning her and her wolven beast. Some whisper that she is more ice than she is fire, a warg like her Stark cousins instead of a dragonrider like her royal siblings. The crown has done nothing to neither confirm nor deny these rumors, but nevertheless, all eyes will be upon the Princess and her direwolf until she makes the final sail to Driftmark at the new moon's end.

THE WESTEROSI WAY

QUEEN LYANNA MISSING
She-wolf disappears in the North
On the sixth morning celebrating Princess Rhaenna's royal wedding, a black cloud of ravens were seen bursting from the Red Keep's rookeries. Witnesses report them of having flown in every which direction, but the King did not let the city circulate rumors for long before he summoned the masses to the very grounds of Aegon's High Hill. The announcement of Queen Lyanna's disappearance was met with a deafening silence, and all questions were soon directed to the Hand once King Rhaegar was seen being escorted back into the Red Keep. No one knows many details, but many more know that Queen Lyanna had not returned with Princess Rhaenna from Winterfell, and the wedding had only started with her promise to arrive before the ceremony.

With the intimidating sight of the armored forces the King set forth, there is still a sense of dread that seems to have been blanketed across the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. If the Queen can go missing, in her homeland of all places, is anyone at all safe from the coming winter, or the foreign wars ebbing on the horizon? There has still been no development on the search for Tyrion Lannister, and many are reminded of when years ago Princess Elia was first announced as missing - only to be found murdered weeks later. Though none dare voice these concerns to the King himself, it is no question if he shares the same desperate worries. While the royal dragonriders take to their leviathans to aid in the Northern search, it does not seem to be enough to coax King Rhaegar back into the public eye.

For now, the royal celebrations have not been put on hold, and guests are expected to continue the revelry through to the moon's end. The Crown assures the Queen and her retainer were simply lost in a snowstorm, and will be further delayed until the Northern winds finally ease. Echoed with assurances from House Stark, as well, one can only obey royal orders, and drink to the chant of Long live the Queen.

QUEEN'S DIREWOLF
FOUND DEAD
Princesses discover mutilated corpse of royal beast

When the plume of ravens rose from the Red Keep, it was hard to believe that it would be anything more than a few days before the Queen would be home and upon the throne once more. However, the weeks turned into moons with each able Targaryen and countless other lives sent North in search of their Queen. Each search turned up more fruitless than the last.

With word returning from the two Princesses, something much more devastating followed in their wake. The body of the Queen's long loved direwolf, Muna, found mutilated and buried in the snow. The worst that had been feared by the realms is now confirmed by the giant creature's corpse. The body was found along the riverbed of the great White Knife only two weeks past, with the Princess Visenya flying ahead to deliver the news to the royal family. Meanwhile, the reports say that Princess Rhaenna and the Commander of the Seawatch ferried the body back with the fleet.

A pyre for the Queen and the royal beast has been erected. The royal family themselves have not been seen since the announcement, yet half of the godswood has been cut down in honor of the two regal pair. The Great Sept of Baelor has not known such treatment, preparing for the travelers that will flood to the capitol for an event such as this. Expect hundreds of thousands to pass through the gates of the city in the weeks to come.

The devastation that has rocked the realms can only kindle the flame to what is assumed of the royal family's grief. The searches have been slowly slackening, parties being called off as to return to their homes and to outrun the splintering cold that chases their heels. A few remaining that have been sent in search of the Queen have lost contact with their commanders, but many assume it is just the cold... as similar circumstances have occurred with children and other travel-worn townsfolk in the area.

The High Septon has cautioned the Seven Kingdoms to keep praying to the gods for a merciful winter and the return of the Queen, however unlikely, but many others have ignored him in favor for the work Lyanna left behind. Princess Daenerys of Highgarden has resumed Her Majesty's efforts, uniting the realms through the arduous preparations for winter. Rumors whisper that if the Iron Throne cannot protect their own Queen in her own homeland, how are they to protect the Seven Kingdoms from the feared Long Night that's said to come?

THE WESTEROSI WAY

WAR, WINTER AND WEDDINGS
Trying times for the Seven Kingdoms
Ending with the ominous glow of a royal pyre, the funeral progressions for Queen Lyanna and her direwolf came to a solemn, if not silent close on the tenth day of mourning. With the King Rhaegar becoming literally inaccessible, surrounded by his Kingsguard and hardly seen by court, it is no news that the Hand, Jon Connington, sits the Iron Throne in his absence. The royal family was last seen together when the bones of the Queen's direwolf were gathered from the pyre, promised to Lord Rickard Stark and the infamous crypts of Winterfell... but no reunion since has been sighted. Though foreign emissaries from Tyrosh, Lys and Volantis have long since docked in the Blackwater, many wonder how they will negotiate terms of war with the Dragon King so indisposed.

The hope that the wedding of Crown Prince Aegon and Princess Visenya will bring warmth back to the Red Keep spreads far and wide. While the city of King's Landing turns over its grief in favor for celebration, the rumors that war with Essos will come for their mourning King much faster than he knows still trickles through the streets and hovels. And what of Tyrion Lannnister? The dwarf is still yet to be found, Tywin Lannister's death still yet to be solved despite the efforts of Casterly Rock, and the recent attack on Tywin's widow, the Lady Ashara, is still left without answers.

There seems to be little peace found in any corner of the realms. Jeor Mormont of the Night's Watch is in constant correspondence with Winterfell and the Red Keep, reporting men disappearing from their beds at night, some men going mad with eerie sightings as they patrol the Wall, others deserting their ranks so fast that many fear they have formed brigands in the Wolfswood.

Winter. War. It seems Westeros has not faced such trying times since the Mad King reigned. Reports that Prince Doran has departed the city, abandoning his post as Master of Laws and paying voyage back to Sunspear, leaves the Small Council reeling. Though no official answers have been given as to why the ailing Prince, after nearly two decades, has returned to Dorne, many think of only one thing at the sight of the black ravens flocking to and from the royal rookeries. Dark wings, dark words.

THE WESTEROSI WAY

TURNING OF THE CENTURY
Grim beginnings for 302 AC
And so the new year has finally come. Though where the change once ushered in new horizons for the Seven Kingdoms, new dreams and new possibilities, those of Westeros no longer feel the childish sense of hope when greeting 302 AC. The year prior saw them robbed of Tywin Lannister, of Elyse Arryn... of even their beloved Queen Lyanna. It saw the white ravens fly from the Citadel, it saw the frost stealing much of their farmland, the Vale torn to shreds by the Mountain Clans fleeing their icy peaks. Gangs of bannerless outlaws and brigands continue to stalk the southern realms, setting fires in the Crownlands, robbing mines in the Westerlands, flattening villages in the Stormlands and escaping the yokes of the reigning lords in the Reach. Pirates and lawless mercenaries infest the Narrow Sea, multiplying in the Stepstones, crawling into the Blackwater and wreaking havoc on any ship unlucky enough to be in their way. Whatever the year of 302 has in store for Westeros, many are hesitant to welcome it.

Yet even behind the persistently grey skies, the sun continues to rise and continues to set, breaking its light upon the new royal marriage of Prince Aegon and Princess Visenya. But even the heirs to the Iron Throne were not without trouble, for the emissaries from the Free Cities maneuvered discussions of war in the Red Keep whilst the Great Sept produced the newest royal couple. After many moons of treating with those from Tyrosh, Lys and Myr, and even welcoming Volantis' newest Triarch, it seems it was only the threat of his own kingdoms that finally made King Rhaegar emerge from his dark and grieving shell.

War has been declared. Reports from the Red Keep swirl with talks of a great alliance, one that, like Aegon the Dragon before him, ties King Rhaegar and the Free Cities of Tyrosh, Lys and Myr together against the chaos in the Stepstones and the overreaching arc of Volantene conquerors. With their emissaries taking to their ships and abandoning the Blackwater, many cannot help but wonder what this means for Westeros and its soldiers. While the Iron Throne begins to summon their banners for the long sail to the Stepstones, the Prince of Dragonstone himself has been ordered to fly to Volantis - if only in a last attempt at diplomacy before war erupts across the Free Cities, and brings the wrath of fire and blood to their shores.

THE WESTEROSI WAY

A CALL TO ARMS
Seven Kingdoms slated for war
All have spoken of naught but peace for ten and seven years. In an age where men grown have known nothing else, many ask how it's all come to this? Nearly twenty years. Nearly. However, the reign of King Rhaegar could not go without another call to war, a summon of his banners that stretched across the Seven Kingdoms, reaching every overlord and their vassals. In retaliation to the alliance made between the Iron Throne and the Free Cities of Tyrosh, Lys and Myr, the band of vagabonds, if you could call them armies, consisting of pirates and mercenaries, nameless sellswords and lawless brigands that claim the Stepstones, launched their first organized attack on Westeros’ shores. Met with equal force and shattered in the Stormlands, they were pushed back into the waters of the Narrow Sea with a promise to finish what they had begun on their very islands. For the first time in centuries, the royal family even called forth some of their dragons into combat, sparking the widely-asked question: What are they preparing for?

Though the battle was won, the war is not over. It seems every major noble House hosts a funeral for one of their members, whether it be father, son, brother or even daughter, and many wonder how long it will be before they are summoned to battle once more. It was noted that the Prince Aegon of Dragonstone was absent from the fight, and while his wife, Princess Visenya, was seen on her dragon above the fray, rumors swirl that Aegon has already reached Volantis. After the triarchs were denied an alliance with the crown, why would the Red Prince be sent to the Black Wall? Has all this stemmed from the promise of the King's hand to the Archon of Tyrosh's daughter? Where two hands are bonded, and a House joined, the same can even be said for the revived companionship between Myr and Lys. Where Lorainna of Tyrosh is in study to become Queen, the King will embark on a journey he knows all too well. In a matter of weeks, the date has been set for the next royal wedding, but most continue to wonder which will come first: the wedding or the war?

The Free Cities churn with turmoil but the Narrow Sea is not the only place that threatens Westeros. New reports from the Night’s Watch herald the death of their Lord Commander Jeor Mormont, with no written cause as to what took his life, where his body is or who will succeed him. Many eyes go to Lord Stark himself, waiting for the answers he is expected to give. First his own son the First Ranger, then his daughter the Queen, and now the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch; all gone, all disappeared, all dead in his own realm. The North grows darker and darker by the fortnight, the days shorter, the nights longer, the cold reaching as far south as the Red Keep, and there are whispers that Jeor Mormont fell to the madness of it all. Whatever has befallen the Wall in the far North, it has made no prejudice against man, woman, peasant or noble. Will the Seven Kingdoms be called to fight the threats of Essos, or will we be forced to look north... and perhaps face our very doom?

THE WESTEROSI WAY

A FOREIGN HEAD OF STATE
Ashes to Ashes, Volantis to dust.
“You are being watched, King Rhaegar.” Such were the very words sent by the Black Wall of Volantis, following the return of the great beast Aemithor and the absence of his rider Prince Aegon. The taking of the Iron Throne’s heir has at last sealed Westeros’ involvement in the tensions across the Narrow Sea, the King and his Small Council vowing a war unlike any of those predating. At the discovery of Tyrion Lannister sequestered within the Archon of Tyrosh’s innermost circle, the crown finds themselves with foreign enemies at both fronts. Sending Prince Viserys on a vengeful mission to find his son, the King’s hopes that the Prince of Dragonstone can be retrieved by fire and blood is echoed by the voices of few but supported by the heavy hearts of many. Among the tide of accusations, rising and swelling against the walls of the Red Keep, the word that the future queen was taken behind locked doors and charged of crimes against the royal family rang through every ear.

The gaggle of ladies that flocked to the Crownlands to offer their service now had their families in uproar over the interrogations that have taken place. Where the King's agents attempted to uproot the truth, all that was revealed was ignorance and proclaimed innocence; a fruitless search in salted lands. Cleared of any suspicion of treason, a charge not survived by many, the noblewomen were released from royal custody and returned to their families. It was another fortnight before Lady Lorainna, too, was declared innocent, a revelation shocking to some and relieving to others, but even more surprising was the royal marriage still to take place between she and King Rhaegar. In the wake of their union comes yet another call to arms, one loud enough to rouse even the most dormant of soldiers into action.

In the haste of the wedding and amassing of ships, the Blackwater Bay no longer welcomes merchant vessels through its waters, the royal navy holding all precedence as the people prepare for invasion. Yet again there is no discrimination made between man or woman; any strong enough to hold a weapon are expected to board a ship and fight for the seven kingdoms they share. Under the shadow of dragon wings and their riders, the King’s armies will embark for Tyrosh itself, and if successful, the Archon and his senate will be eradicated, and Tyrion Lannister put in chains to truly prove Lady Lorainna’s innocence. Luck for the lady of Tyrosh seems to be in short supply, however, with her life riding on the back of a dwarf, how long will it be before the dragon's eyes are set upon Volantis?

With the Red Prince still firmly within the Black Wall’s grasp, a dangerous game of cat and dragon is to be played over the salted shores that line the Free Cities. While Volantis believes themselves safe with the pawn of Westeros’ beloved heir, it is only when the white knight Prince Viserys vanishes with his beast beyond the horizon do the people begin to spark with hope once more… until of course the winds are filled with tales of Volantis being burnt to the ground. The plumage of smoke coloring the skies and painting the warning for both Myr and Lys to witness, let this be a lesson to all who cross the dragons. That there is nothing to be left but ashes after the reign of fire and blood.

Amidst the chaos that rules in the southern realms, there is little to be heard from the lands that lay beyond White Harbor. Other than the plea for more men to be sent to man the Wall, a cold silence seems to have settled over the North. While its people suffer through the infancy of winter, there is still a Long Night left to come, with whispers on the breeze of a woman recruiting an army of the dead on her own…

THE WESTEROSI WAY

THE TRUE
MARCH NORTH
The War that none saw coming.

War in Westeros seems almost too common a phrase now, for both the ending of 302 and the start of 303 AC were heralded each in battle and bloodshed. Fire and blood have left the cities of Volantis and Tyrosh clouded in smoke and buried in ash, reminding all those that dare cross House Targaryen that Valyria's dragonlords still reign. Consigned to helping the fall of her own homeland, the new Queen Lorainna did not return entirely empty-handed, delivering the traitorous dwarf Tyrion Lannister in iron shackles and the embalmed corpse of her own father the Archon. Considered his successor in all but name, her journey to reshape and remake Tyrosh in her own image has only just begun - with the three-headed dragon of her new royal husband to support her.

Summons have been sent throughout the long length of the land, the stretch of birds wings reaching so far as White Harbor. At least five different heralds were sent from its frosty gates, in hopes of reaching the heart of winter and its long-silent Warden. The judges who will sit the trial of the ill-fated Lannister have been informed of their duties, and responses have been received from all but the North. Awaiting one judge's arrival before the judiciary begins, the whole realm is on the edge of its seat, anxiously wondering upon the dwarf's fate.

More men are needed to man the Wall. Such words have been scrawled so fervently into every parchment that have been sent south for countless years past... with none truly paying much heed to the repetitive scrawl. Until the letters stopped. In the wake of all the chaos that has been dominating the land, it was only when silence finally reigned over the whitened reaches of Westeros did heads begin to turn.

With the men so recently returned form war, it hardly seems as though they have had time to rest their weapons and hold their wives. The restlessness in the North has been felt in the very bones of the Seven Kingdoms, not only the disappearances, but there are rumors coating the ends of raven's wings that towns have been caught alight in random pyres, "animal" attacks on any who stray too far from the sanctuary of their villages, and thickening ice on every plot of land. Winter continues to claim the winds as its own and render the land bare beneath its suffocating weight.

With moons of silence from the Northern lands, a single raven has been said to have been received by the King's very maester himself. "Night reigns once more." With the exceedingly vague note and little more to go on, none know what action to take. They can only hope that Lord Rickard will shed light on the situation upon his arrival in King's Landing for Lord Tyrion's trial.
